The PHS Concert Bands consist of all Spartan Marching Band students. At Porter High School, all band students enroll into an audition-based band class. The Spartan Wind Ensemble has achieved numerous Division I Sweepstakes successes and the Symphonic Band has achieved Division I success on stage. All PHS bands consist of woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. The bands travel to various functions in Porter and perform for various concerts.

In band class, the students learn fundamentals of advanced instrumental music performance, band literature, music theory skills, and history of music. Alongside that, they learn life skills as they apply to their daily lives, such as team work, commitment, and work ethic.

The Spartan Marching Band is the official major band of Porter High School. If a student at PHS is enrolled in any of the bands (PHS Wind Ensemble, PHS Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, etc), then that student is a part of the Spartan Marching Band.

The Spartan Marching Band mission is to provide quality performance, academic excellence, loyal school spirit, and highest character qualities at Porter High School. The Spartan Marching Band is a hard-working team that learns not just about music but also about major life skills that will last a lifetime - discipline, honor, integrity, and commitment.

The marching band is featured at every Friday night high school football game during half time. The marching band is also seen performing at various public community functions and parades. The band is competitive and participates in competitions every year at various marching festivals and contests, such as the Galena Park Marching Band Festival, USBands hosted by The Cadets, The Friendswood Marching Festival, and UIL Marching Contest.

The marching band was first established in 2010 with the opening of Porter High School.

The PHS Color Guard is dedicated to providing the visual aspect of the marching band. Dance and visual work are heavily involved in the color guard program. The color guard learns the basics of dance fundamentals, from ballet to modern. Then they learn fundamentals of equipment - flags, rifles, and sabers.

The PHS Spartan Guard competes at the Texas Color Guard Circuit with some of the best guards in their class.
